A new job and a new decision

August 23rd, 2021 by michael

Here’s the logo for the company I just joined! We improve people lives with newer and better food additives. Among other things. Anyway, I’m excited to be working full-time again.

I’m an automated software testing lead for their business software operations. You know, the kind of stuff that orders stuff, ships stuff, stores stuff, pays bills and employees, etc. I have a bit of experience in automated testing of that kind of thing, along with my better-known rocket science stuff.

So my life has changed yet again. I’m no longer retired. Well, I’m technically still retired in the sense of checks coming every month, which is always nice. The company has operations all over the world. My part is in Erlanger, Kentucky, which is in the metro Cincinnati area. It’s supposed to be very nice there.

We went to Louisville a couple months ago to see Mark, who had just moved there for a new job. He’s pretty happy in Kentucky and I think we will be too. For now, though, I’m working remotely. We’ll probably have to move there within a year.

And there’s one more change: I want to start writing on my blogs more than I write on Facebook. There’s this one and spinfo dot info, as my Loyal Readers doubtless know. Facebook gives you access to a built-in audience of friends and family, which is nice, but it’s also a horrible medium run by horrible people. So I’ll probably keep putting funny pictures on that platform and writing mainly to myself on this one and the other. This will be for life and the other site will be for tech.

Wish me luck, Loyal Readers.

Happy 64th

Happy birthday, Shannon. You are not forgotten and won’t be as long as our family and your many friends live.

Happy 61st, Shannon

May 17th, 2018 by michael

Here is Shannon giving little toddler Andy a kiss. I found this the other day while I was scanning old slides and I really like it. Part of my famous Shannon series.

It’s Shannon’s birthday today. She would have been 61 years old. I can hardly believe it’s been more than four years since she died. I still think about her every day and truly grieve her loss.

The slide scanning project is starting to pick up. I bought a decent scanner quite a while ago – in time to scan a few old slides for my 60th birthday, in fact – but only used it for a couple hundred slides or so and then let it sit until recently. Now I’m moving forward with it again. Most of the photos were shot by Shannon. For the most part, they document birthdays, Christmas, Easter, family visits, and camping trips. Pretty normal, everyday things in our lives. And yet I’ve been deeply impressed by the feeling of her love for our children that these photos represent. Katy, Paul, Andy, and Mark were indelibly imprinted on her heart and even though she’s been gone for a while now, that love somehow persists. I feel it in a very real way and I sincerely hope each of our children does too.

And that’s it for today. My life has been so charmed. Sure, there have been, are, and will be more difficulties. But I live a charmed life, full of love and happiness. I wish the same to you.

Happy 60th

Here are Shannon, Paul, Katy, and me visiting the San Diego Wild Animal Park sometime in the last half of the 1980s. We looked so young! Come to think of it, we were young! Great Art courtesy of some film camera, taken by some person, digitized by the exclusive Morrowlife scanner, and part of my famous Shannon series.

Shannon’s picture is here to honor her on what would have been her sixtieth birthday, which would have followed her 37th Mother’s Day by just a few days. I miss her. I know our children do too, along with many others.

I’ve been going through a project to digitize all my old slides and photos. It’s daunting. There are so many, and the new scanner I bought ([amazon text=this one&asin=B008ZDCZ8Y], to be specific) only handles four slides at a time. I’ve scanned well over a hundred slides so far, but it takes a long time. Still, I’ll get there eventually if my enthusiasm doesn’t wane.

It shows no signs of waning so far – these old images are precious. Katy’s and Paul’s childhoods were documented on film, while we had digital cameras for most of Andy and Mark’s lives. So I’m reliving a lot of great stuff.

I’ve been helping my friend Michael replace the transmission on his 1969 MGB. It’s been a whole lot of work and has taken quite a bit longer than he predicted it would, but it’s been great fun. I love working on other people’s cars!

We’re leaving for Joanne’s son Desi’s wedding tomorrow. Everybody’s pretty excited about it. Including me.

Speaking of Joanne, she’s loving her new job. I’m truly happy for her.

And that’s it for today. I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this exciting Morrowlife Employment Agency job opportunity: vampire ant!

See you soon.

Blue bird

April 24th, 2017 by michael

Here’s a blue bird. Well, it’s not a real blue bird. It’s more of a statue. Yeah, that’s it – a statue. Great Art courtesy of the exclusive iPhone-cam, taken in our living room, and part of my famous Las Vegas, Bird, Art, and Statue series.

Very long time, no post. Lots has happened, but I’ve been documenting life more on my Facebook page. Still, it behooves me to drop in here occasionally. I’m sure I have no more Loyal Readers, but that’s okay. It’s more for me, anyway.

Greetings from warm, sunny Tucson, Arizona! We came here to help Corey celebrate his 22nd birthday, which is today. Happy birthday, Corey! Marisa, his Special Friend lives here, and Joanne wanted to give him a visit as a birthday gift. They both seem to be enjoying the visit.

Unfortunately, Joanne is no longer here. She started her new job at Caesars Entertainment a couple weeks ago and couldn’t be away from home. She drove here with Corey and me on Saturday and flew back home last night. Short visit for her. I’m staying here today to take Corey and Marisa out to Birthday Dinner and then driving home alone tomorrow. Corey’s staying until early next week.

Not much else to talk about right now. One of the reasons I never seem to take the time to write here is that it seems like such a daunting task to write down everything that’s happening. So I won’t. See my Facebook page for more details.

And I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food violence news: chili-stirring-related violence!

See you tomorrow.
