Stump standers

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Here are LRN2 and LRN4 standing on the stump of a tree a Calaveras Big Trees State Park.  Yet another entry in my famous Camping and Vacation series.  Turns out that trip was the last one in our old trailer.  There are sure a lot of good memories in that thing.  But I’m not really sorry it’s gone.  I think.  Mostly.

Extreme short shrift – it’s late and, besides, I don’t have much to write about today anyway.

Thanks to LRN26 for the excellent biblical interpretation on the Zucchini post.  I think he has something there.

Worked, ate, and commuted today.  Also wrote my weekly letter to LRN1.  Now I’m planning on going to bed.

Tomorrow, we plan to re-secure a post on the little mini-fence that covers up the pool equipment.  Otherwise, not much in the plans.  I’m sure we’ll think of something.

And I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food crime news: honey smuggling!

See you Monday.

Parking lot

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Here’s the sign for the parking lot at Calaveras Big Trees Stake Park.  You can’t go wrong, as long as you want to go to the parking lot.  Part of both my famous Camping and Vacation series.

No posts the last couple of days.  Thanks to LRN4 for noticing.  Don’t know what I said to make her think I was posting yesterday.  Should have done and all that, but didn’t do.  Didn’t even get started.

Not that things aren’t just fine.  They’re . . . umm . . . just fine.  Nothing to complain about.  Work’s busy and pretty good.  The iPhone project is going well.  Home is getting less and less cluttered all the time and is going well.  I’m eating well – a bit too well, in fact.  Must . . . lose . . . weight.

Speaking of the iPhone project, I made my first actual code change yesterday!  It was a one-liner, but the important thing is knowing what one line to write and where to put it.  Seems to work.  I’m hoping for feedback from my colleagues as to whether they’re happy with it.  Hope reigns supreme.

Otherwise, situation normal.  So I won’t belabor the point and will end with this exciting GOOD food violence news: the zucchini defense!  Finally, there’s an actual use for zucchini.

See you tomorrow.

Hungry bear

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Here’s a hungry-looking bear waiting for its prey – group campers. Fortunately, this bear is technically just a statue, making it highly unlikely to actually catch any campers. Part of both my famous Camping and Statue series. Let’s throw in my famous Vacation series for good measure, for a very rare Triple Series Great Art day.

Well, I’ve certainly been negligent again, haven’t I? Must . . . post . . . more . . . regularly.

Good weekend. My dad was here – had a great visit and had a chance to talk about a lot of important things. I really appreciated his advice on several things. LRN12 was also here, and was as fun as ever. If only that girl would sleep. Sheesh. I wonder how her mom functions. LRN4 is still exhausted.

Otherwise, not much is new. The Miata is finally officially gone, after spending several days at the mechanic (and several hundred dollars!) getting fixed so it would pass its smog test. Finally passed yesterday and got picked up by its new owners today. Hopefully, they’ll really enjoy it. I know we did. My next convertible: a Corvette. It’s either that or a Porsche, and the Corvette will be way cheaper to keep running, I suspect. Not for a while, though. I’m happy with the four cars I have.

Speaking of which, LRN4 canceled the Miata’s insurance today and put LRN2 on as my beloved pickup’s driver. We’re saving a thousand bucks a year! I think they were charging us way too much for the pickup in the past. I doubt we have any way of getting the overcharged money back at this point, but at least it appears to be fixed now. Let that be a lesson to us all. Check your insurance bill. Carefully.

Let’s see, what else is going on? I really can’t think of anything. And it’s time for bed, so I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food violence news: McNugget punch!

See you tomorrow.

North Grove

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Here’s the North Grove trail in Calaveras Big Trees State Park.  A very pretty place to take a walk.  Great Art courtesy of my very nice Olympus camera and part of my famous Camping series.

Hot, hot, hot day.  It got up to 103 here in Lardville, which I believe breaks the record by a couple of degrees.  At least that’s what the Weather Channel’s website says.  Even more shocking, it got up to 100 in Sunnyvale, which is nine degrees above the previous record.  Yikes.

Otherwise, though, it was a pretty average day.  Nothing great happened, nothing bad happened.

Oh, one good thing – I chatted with LRN3 during my afternoon drive to the train station.  He’s doing well.  They’re leaving for Virginia a bit early – this Friday, in fact.  He’s getting excited about it.  I’m really pleased for them, except that it will be harder for us to get together.

That’s it for tonight.  I want to take a dip in the pool before bedtime.  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food violence news: poutine attack!

Leaning readers

Here are LRN2 and LRN4 looking at a big tree at Calaveras Big Trees State Park.  As mentioned before, that’s a great place to go if you want to look at big trees.  Since that’s where the big trees are.  Pretty cool bench, no?  Part of my famous Camping series.

No post yesterday.  I came home early from work after having a lovely lunch with my former co-worker Dan.  Half an hour after returning to the office, I started feeling sick.  Sometime around mid-day today, I started feeling well again.  Very unfortunate.  But I’m better now.

Didn’t do much today except lie around getting better.  Fortunately, it worked.  Also got in the pool for a little while this evening.  The water felt great.  It’s been a good summer for swimming.

On the bad side of the pool, our PDA (Pool Digital Assistant) stopped working yesterday.  Dead as a doornail.  Those things cost a bunch, sadly.  I know because I ordered a new one today.  Sigh.  We should be back up and working again in a week or two.  In the meantime, I believe the pool is still running its automatic program every day.  We just can’t heat up the jacuzzi until the new one comes in.

Also spent a bunch of money ordering LRN2’s new Mac laptop last night.  It’s supposed to be here by Friday!  His iPod Touch will apparently be delivered sometime later – still don’t have a date for that.  He’s pretty excited about the whole thing.  He’s been hoarding money for this thing for quite a while.  Have fun with it, LRN2!

And I’m about done for tonight.  I want to do some iPhone documentation reading.  Sounds exciting, no?  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking potential food violence news: Eggo shortage!  Let’s all share out there.

See you tomorrow.
