Donut day

donutday

Here’s a rare picture of the Loyal Blogger, celebrating National Donut Day (note the conflicting spelling between the Wikipedia article and the poster – I believe both are correct – at least that’s what the dictionary says – what’s your opinion, Loyal Readers?) the right way: with a fresh lemon-jelly-filled donut.  Great Art by LRN4, courtesy of the exclusive iPhone-cam, and part of my famous Event series.

Pretty good day today.  We got out a bit in the morning, after the morning infusion.  Went to the post office (received a birthday card – I assume, anyway – from LRN23 to add to my amazing pile of extravagant cards and gifts), stopped in at the donut shop next door for a few minutes to celebrate, and went to Wally World to exchange some inappropriately-fitting pants we bought for LRN4, buy some additional pants for her, and buy some shirts for me to replace a few hideously worn out ones LRN4 has convinced me to get rid of.  I like the stuff we got.  Then we went to the local library, talked our way into library cards (actually, it was easy – they pretty much give them to anybody in the hospital), browsed, and checked out a bunch of books.  I think LRN4 is back to work!  I, on the other hand, did no work.  Then we came home and spent the day quietly.

Tomorrow’s the happiest day of the year!  That’s right, Loyal Readers, it’s Morrow’s Birthday!  It’ll be on the calendar someday, but in the meantime, please celebrate irresponsibly.  I plan to.  Might even get another donut.  We were scheduled to spend the evening with my cousin Betsy and her husband Bob at their home for a joint birthday party for Betsy and me.  However, she called this evening to let me know she’s not feeling completely well, so we postponed it to Monday.  Or possibly later.  It would be kind of a shame to make LRN4 sick for a birthday party, even if it is the happiest party of the year.

So tonight is Morrow’s Birthday Eve.  LRN4 and I are observing it by reading and watching [amazon asin=B005D0OHA6&text=The King of Queens], [amazon asin=B00BT1XCOU&text=How I Met Your Mother], [amazon asin=B0090PX7KQ&text=Jeopardy], [amazon asin=B000REQRAG&text=Wheel of Fortune], and [amazon asin=B003WVJ65Y&text=Monk].  Quite an evening.

No news on LRN4’s health outlook, of course.  We won’t get another blood draw until Sunday, so we wait.

And that’s it for tonight.  Just a reminder for new readers of the blog – there are no updates on weekends.  Check out that motto up there at the top of the page.  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food violence news: Crustacean Combat!

Burning apartment

burningapartment

Here’s a dramatic news-style photo of the apartment building fire in our complex in Pennsylvania.  Fortunately, it wasn’t our building, but it wasn’t far from us.  Hit by lightning, as I undoubtedly mentioned at the time.  Great Art courtesy of the exclusive iPhone-cam, taken in Langhorne, Pennsylvania last July, and part of my famous Event series.

Yes, that was an event, as far as I’m concerned.

Another great day here for us Village People.  We expected our friends from Lardville to visit, but there were running a couple hours late, so LRN4 decided to give them a call.  At that time, she discovered they had called us yesterday to cancel the visit.  They had a sudden death in their extended family and needed to get home.  LRN4 called anyway and had a nice chat with Danelle.  We were sorry to hear of the death, of course, and also sorry we didn’t get to visit in person.  They said they’ve already paid for [amazon asin=B00D5GI080&text=tickets] to [amazon asin=B00AYP6GJK&text=Universal Studios] that expire at the end of this month, so they’ll be here sometime in the next few weeks.  So there’s that.

Otherwise, it was quiet.  We went to a couple stores in the evening to buy more missing ingredients for things we want to cook – it’s tough starting with zero supplies – and more things to drink for LRN4.  She’s still struggling with her taste buds refusing to work properly.  There’s always an unpleasant taste in her mouth and sweet things seem to make it worse.  She can taste and enjoy meat and vegetables, so she’s mostly confining her gustatory activities to that field of operations, but we know of few meat-based beverage choices.  The trouble here is that there’s a recent history of pills not wanting to stay down when taken with water.  Don’t ask me why, but that’s how it is.  She’s been using apple juice for her pill-swallowing duties, but not enjoying it much, so it’s difficult for her to get enough hydration.  So we bought a whole bunch of beverages for her to try, including tomato juice.  Yes, I know tomatoes are a fruit, but they’re as close to a vegetable drink as we could get.

The taste buds are supposed to recover with time.  LRN4 wonders how much time that will be.  Wish I had the answer for her.

We watched one of the movies LRN29 brought over yesterday, called [amazon asin=0783230079&text=Heart and Souls].  One-line review: I wanted to dislike this extremely predictable movie, but couldn’t.  How’s that for a rousing recommendation?

We’ve also been watching the [amazon asin=B000HT3P60&text=Bones] series from the beginning.  We have one more episode to go in the first season, and LRN16 sent us five seasons, I think.  We really like the show, and it’s much better to see it in order (not that it plays in any specific order, like [amazon asin=B0000AQS0F&text=Firefly], but still) and especially without commercial interruption (not that that’s how it was intended to be seen, but still).

My extravagant gift from LRN4 came today, in plenty of time for my birthday!  I can’t wait to open it.  I promise to act surprised.  In fact, I won’t even link to it on Amazon until after I open it.  That’s how surprised I’m going to be.

And that ‘s it for today.  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food violence news: Taco Bell hoax!

See you tomorrow.

jack

Here’s LRN4 with her friend Jack.  That’s LRN4 over there on the right.  Great Art courtesy of the exclusive iPhone-cam, taken at Dorney Park last October, and part of my famous Event and Machinery series.

Update on LRN4: she’s doing great, responding perfectly to treatment, and feeling very good.  There’s still a lot of water to pass under the bridge, but she’s right on schedule and things are going great.

LRN4’s predicament is pretty much the only thing I’ve been concentrating on, so there’s not much else to talk about tonight.

Oh, there is one other thing going on.  The backyard project is going great!  They reported this morning that there were two days of construction remaining, so it ought to be done tomorrow!  Pictures will be provided.  It looks beautiful so far!  It’s going to be a great place to hang out.

And I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food violence news: meatball embezzlement!

See you tomorrow.

Special visitor

Tuesday, April 17th, 2012

Here’s LRN1 enjoying a quiet moment with a very special visitor a couple of weeks back.  Great Art courtesy of the exclusive iPhone-cam, taken at our apartment complex’s clubhouse, and part of my famous Event series.

Been a few days again, and lots has happened.  First (and worst), LRN4 and LRN1 left for California on Saturday morning.  Boo hoo!  They’ve had a great time visiting LRN5, LRN12, Cliff, and many other friends.  The house was in great shape and everything is going well.  They got my beloved pickup’s strange blinker problem fixed, they packed everything up and loaded the truck, and they’re ready to head for Utah tomorrow morning.  Drive carefully, Loyal Readers!

I’ve been living the bachelor life again, although LRN4 correctly points out that I’m definitely not living like a hobo this time.  I’ve got furniture, dishes, food, and all the comforts of home.  That part’s just fine.  I’m still a bit lonesome.  However, I have my sushi to comfort me in my time of trial.

Also had a hamburger last night and a really nice plate of pork paprikash tonight.  Tomorrow: sushi again, most likely.

But I’m suffering.  Suffering, I tell you.

Let’s see, what else has been happening?  We went to an interesting place on Friday called Bryn Athyn.  Beautiful old buildings.  Very nice people.  Perfect day.  It was all good.  Recommended.  I don’t think we’ll be going back again and again, but still recommended.

Ordered my Beagle Bone over the weekend.  It’s finally in stock at Adafruit!  They shipped it out of New York City yesterday.  It arrived in Philly today, so I expect it’ll be delivered tomorrow.  Can’t wait!

I bought some instant ice packs for my poor, sore tennis elbow the other day.  They work – sort of.  See my brilliant Amazon review here.  Try another brand.

Time for bed already.  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this exciting Morrowlife Employment Agency job opportunity: attack turtle!

See you tomorrow.

Indoor lawn

Monday, March 26th, 2012

Here’s the most beautiful indoor lawn I’ve ever seen.  Great Art taken at Longwood Gardens, courtesy of the exclusive iPhone-cam, and part of my famous Event and Hiking series.

Well, it was sort of a hike.  We went to this amazing place here in Pennsylvania called Longwood Gardens.  It’s the old early-twentieth century estate of Pierre du Pont and it’s unbelievable.  The grounds are exquisite and huge (over 200 acres), but the most amazing thing we saw was the conservatory.  It’s an indoor garden featuring a total of 4 acres.  It just goes on and on and on.  The building itself is extremely ornate but beautiful and tasteful, and the gardens are just indescribable.  So I won’t try anymore.  Just go.  We’re going back.  We have to.  We bought a year-long membership.

Been a nice few days.  LRN3 was here from Monday to Monday.  We had a very nice visit.  He rode the train up from Quantico to Trenton and really enjoyed the ride.  Went back this morning/afternoon and reports it was equally enjoyable on the way back down.  Thursday, LRN3 and LRN15 are coming back for the long weekend.  We’ll be celebrating LRN15’s upcoming birthday.  Ought to be even more fun.

The Brewing Company app is coming along very nicely.  We have a fully-functioning app at this point, with a few refinements needed to existing views.  We still need to add contact information – both for the band and for us – as well as credits for open source code we’ve used.  LRN1 is busily working on the Android version and is making good progress.

LRN4 got her previously-mentioned Android tablet the other day.  It’s really cool!  And it was dirt cheap.  Could it be possible that my fanboy loyalties might change?  Doubtful.  But I’d like an Android tablet too.

I’ve been a big Arduino fan for quite a while, but I think I’ve found something even better – the [amazon asin=B007KW80M6&text=BeagleBone]!  It’s a whole lot more powerful than an Arduino, it runs Linux, and it only costs about two to three times as much as an Arduino.  Totally worth it.  I’m pretty sure I’ll be ordering one in the next few days.  Amazon has it, but I think I like Adafruit’s starter kit even more.

Work is busy and enjoyable.  Life here in Pennsylvania is great.  All’s well.

I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this exciting Morrowlife Employment Agency job opportunity: adopted French gorilla!

See you tomorrow.
