Beach reader

March 15th, 2011 by michael

Here’s LRN4 hanging out at the beach at Half Moon Bay.  Looks like a nice warm day, huh?  That’s a bit of her friend Jan’s pink arm there.  Great Art courtesy of my Olympus camera and part of my famous Vacation series.

No posts for an extremely long time.  Been busy, been doing other things, been unable to get to it.  Time to start up again.

Not that there’s that much my Loyal Readers have missed.  Working and sleeping.  Eating too.  Too much, as a matter of fact.  Need to work on that.

LRN4’s website is going very well.  I still have a couple of things to figure out on the template, but I think its looking pretty good.  Check it out.  And leave a comment.  I mean it.  I order you.

LRN4 and I are getting ready to go to Salt Lake at the end of the month for the aforementioned LDS Tech conference.  We’re also greatly looking forward to seeing LRN2.

Speaking of whom, LRN2’s cell phone is kaput.  The old Palm has finally given up the ghost.  It lasted quite a while, though, so we don’t need to mourn for it.  It made it through me and then LRN1 and finally LRN2.  Good phone.  I was going to talk to the AT&T folks this evening to see if we’re eligible for another free/cheap phone for him, but it turns out I can only do that during business hours.  I’ll have to call from work, I suppose.  He needs a replacement very soon.

We’ve been talking about going to Guatemala to pick up LRN1 from his mission next February.  We just don’t know if that’s the best thing to do.  Might enjoy touring the country, might not.  We really wouldn’t see him significantly sooner – maybe a day or so – so that’s not really a consideration.  We have plenty of time to make up our minds.  What do my Loyal Readers think about it?

And I really need to go to bed.  I’ll leave my Loyal Reader with this shocking food violence news:  chicken throwing!

See you tomorrow.

Harveycar

March 3rd, 2011 by michael

Here’s LRN2 with his latest new ride.  Yes, this time he’s traded in the ‘Vette for his very own Harveycar.  I think it’s a big step up, don’t you, Loyal Readers?  More room for friends.  And the gas mileage is probably about the same.  Great Art courtesy of my Olympus camera and taken at this summer’s family reunion at the Grand Canyon.  Part of my famous Machinery series.

I think I missed another day or two, no?  Just a second, I’ll check.  I’m back.  Yes, I missed another day.  And a fine day it was.

Stayed home today – my throat’s been bothering me a bit and I decided to sleep in and work at home.  Had a fairly productive day and enjoyed being here.  Worked.

My brother-in-law Ken was here this evening, as planned.  We had a really nice visit.  One thing I really like about Ken is that he always stops in when he’s in the area on business.  He’s going to see LRN2 in Provo in a week or so.  I helped to make his visit worthwhile by fixing a computer for him, and LRN4 made it worthwhile by making and serving an excellent turkey dinner.

We’re heading to Half Moon Bay tomorrow morning, as planned.  Won’t be home until Sunday, so blogging is highly unlikely on Friday.  I’m not even bringing my computer (aargh!).  I’ll have the iPad, but I still probably won’t write anything anyway.  Try to stifle your suffering, Loyal Readers.  I’ll be back next week.

And I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food violence news: fried chicken assault!

See you on Monday.

Reader’s Vette

March 1st, 2011 by michael

Here’s LRN2 with his new new car.  Sadly, he decided to trade in his old new car for this one.  Still, I think he’ll be satisfied with this one.  Great Art taken at the Salt Lake auto show in January and part of my famous Machinery series.

No post yesterday. Our friend Art was over for the evening again – we sure enjoy hanging with him.  His wife Cathie is still out of town, and there’s no telling when she’ll get back.  So Art comes over basically every Monday evening.  Maybe we’ll have to invite them together when her long sojourn is finally over.

Now the big news.  Fluffy is gone.  That’s right, our Loyal Snake has been re-adopted.  She’s now the pet of a nice lady who works at the Serpentarium in Lodi.  So she knows her snakes.  And she fell in love with Fluffy.  So Fluffy is probably incredibly happy.  We’ll miss her – LRN2 won’t be too thrilled to know about her re-adoption – but we’ll all be fine.  Farewell, Loyal Snake!

Other news.  Hmm.  Nothing’s coming to me right now.

Oh, my new app is fully functional in what I’d characterize as an advanced alpha form.  All the functionality is there, there may be a slight bug or two in edge cases, and there is no icon or splash screen yet.  I still think I’m on track to get it released in another week or so.

The weekend will be a tough one for programming, though.  As possibly mentioned before, we’re going with some friends to Half Moon Bay on Friday and not coming home until Sunday.  LRN4 has requested that I refrain from programming during the vacation (gasp!), so I think I’ll leave my trusty laptop home.  I’ll take the iPad, though.  Of course.  Also my iPhone.  Of course.  So I’ll struggle through somehow.

And that’s about it.  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food violence news: Mr. Whippy van hijacking!

See you tomorrow.

Lawn lantern

February 25th, 2011 by michael

Here’s an artsy shot of a solar-powered lantern in our back yard.  Solar powered night-time lighting might seem a bit counterintuitive, until we mention that batteries are involved.  Part of my famous Statue series.  Admittedly a bit far-fetched, but work with me on this.

A few more days have gone by without any posts.  Sigh.  I’m starting to wonder whether I’ll ever get back to daily posts.  Probably not.  The outcry is deafening, Loyal Readers.

Nothing much to report, though.  Got up, commuted, worked, commuted, ate, went to bed.  Exciting!

So let’s talk about what’s coming up.  Let’s see – we’re going to Half Moon Bay with some friends in a week.  That ought to be fun.  We’ll be spending Friday and Saturday nights.  We’ve rented a house together.  LRN4 and I have high hopes for a nice, relaxing weekend.

Speaking of spending money, my beloved pickup is going to the shop Sunday night for a Monday repair.  It’s leaking antifreeze, so let’s hope it’s a hose or maybe even the radiator.  I guess the water pump (my uneducated guess, since I haven’t done more than open the hood to look at it) would be way better than the head gasket.  Please don’t let it be the head gasket!

Anyway.  Then there’s the (probably) previously mentioned trip back to Salt Lake at the end of March for the annual two-day LDS Tech Conference.  Looking forward to that one too.

Anything else?  Well, we’re planning on going to Michigan sometime in the summer.  And a Hawaiian cruise sometime early next year – maybe right before LRN1 gets home from his mission, which will be in February.  Details will be filled in as the events get closer.

Not much planned this weekend, though.  It’s been raining and cold for a couple of days, and tomorrow’s supposed to possibly be snowing(!) overnight and early in the morning, but turning nicer as the day goes on.  Probably still won’t be able to wash the cars, though.  Or work on the yard.  Might be able to clean the filters, though.  We’ll see.  I also have a TON of programming I want to do.  Plus work on LRN4’s website.  I have a few nagging issues that still haven’t been taken care of.

And that’s about it for tonight.  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food violence news: self-stabbed donut robber!

See you on Monday.

Gallo stage

February 21st, 2011 by michael

Here’s the stage at the Gallo Center, all set up for Al Jarreau to perform.  In fact, this Great Art was taken during his show’s intermission.  Slightly fuzz Great Art courtesy of the exclusive iPhone cam and part of my brand-new-but-already-famous Event series.

Extreme short shrift.  It’s practically 10:00 already.  I’ve been answering LDS Tools emails all evening.  Getting to be a bit of a habit.  Not one I really want to foster, though.

Thursday night’s Al Jarreau concert was great!  He’s old and really hobbling around, but his voice is still great, his band was outstanding, and he was a lot of fun.  LRN4 and I were among the youngest people there, I suspect.  Sadly, the place wasn’t anywhere near full.  True shame, that.  But that just means we were part of an elite group, right?  One amusing moment – partway through the concert, Al said he had to go to the bathroom and left.  We had a brief intermission, and he came back and started back up.  I guess when you’re 70, you have that right.

The weekend was quiet.  Also rainy.  So I didn’t have get to clean filters, trim the lawn, or do pretty much anything else outside.  I spent most of Friday answering our huge backlog of LDS Tools emails – probably about a hundred.  Saturday, I made a lot of good progress on my new app.  Still have a few evenings of programming to do on that one, plus artwork.  Sunday, LRN4 and I did our income taxes.  Good news – we’re getting some money back!  Bad news – none of it is for you, Loyal Readers!

LRN4 has joined Facebook.  I finally talked her into it as a way to connect with friends who might be interested in reading her blog.  Read, Loyal Readers!

And that’s about it for tonight.  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food-related disaster: sour cream crash!

See you tomorrow.
