Night stage

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Here’s the final installment in the Modesto Pops stage picture series – the nighttime view.  It was a pretty stage, and it didn’t collapse even once.  The power just went out.  Great Art courtesy of the exclusive iPhone-cam and part of my famous Event series.

Extreme short shrift.  It’s getting near 10:00 and I’m already exhausted.  I have no idea why.

Well, it had to happen sometime soon.  Steve Jobs has died.  Lots has been written about the products he brought to market and about his other personal successes and failures.  I don’t think I’ve seen anything about his responsibility for Microsoft Windows, Android phones, and numerous other non-Apple products.  He may not have had a direct hand in them, but if Apple hadn’t been what it was and is, those things would have never been invented.  So even the Apple haters owe Mr. Jobs a debt of gratitude.  Not that it will ever be acknowledged, of course.  I don’t understand the haters.

The work week is done.  Next week’s work week starts . . . tomorrow.  I’m going to work half a day to get my performance appraisals finished (or at least in draft, anyway) because I just can’t seem to get to them while I’m at work.  This will also let me take Tuesday off.  The plan now is to get up on Tuesday morning, get packed, and head out at around 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning.

Lots to do before then.  I really ought to get the pool and pond filters cleaned, I need to pick up a reserved library book (and might as well check for a few other vacation-fodder books while I’m there), probably should download some free titles to the Kindle app on my iPad, need to prepare my Sunday lesson, and need to make my packing list.

The above plans means that I have exactly one more day at work before the trip.  I’m absolutely ready to go.  Sure hope it’s fun.  At least I’m pretty sure the food will be good.  Probably the entertainment as well.  Also the company.  And even if the bed isn’t comfortable, at least the room will be plenty dark.

Which reminds me.  I need to put a flashlight on my packing list.  Might just as well get started now.  Hold on a sec.

I’m back.  I have the first 30 things on the list.  I’m sure there’s more to come, but it’s a start.  Going to need some pretty large suitcases.  The problem here is that it’s impossible to carry enough stuff to last for two weeks.  So we’re going to have to do some laundry.  The question then becomes: how many days should we pack for?  Eight?  Ten?  I’m thinking eight to ten.  I’ll have to see how much I have and how much will fit.  Plus, I need to fit plenty of reading material.  I’m planning to download several free books onto the iPad, which will be a whole lot easier to carry than a bag full of books.  But of course I’ll probably also carry a bag full of books.  Also a computer, my iPad, my iPhone, my iPod, and my work phone.  Sigh.

Enough blabbering.  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food violence news: Mr. Whippy beating!

See you on Monday.

Twilight stage

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

Here’s the Disco Orchestra stage at dusk.  Looking even cooler than that last picture.  The singers are a little bit brightly illuminated, though.  Didn’t seem that way in real life, fortunately.  Great Art courtesy of the famous iPhone-cam and part of my famous Event series.

Long time no blog.  Yet again.  I think I’ll stop mentioning that.  Thanks to LRN2 for missing me.

LRN4 got back from her dad’s 90th birthday party late last night.  She seems to have had a nice time.  It was a quiet weekend for me.  Went golfing on Saturday morning.  Had a nice time, but the course was in terrible shape and was much longer than I expected it to be.  Should have gotten a cart.  Lesson learned.

Ate sushi twice and Mexican food once.  Made plenty of breakfast-type food at home.  Read, napped, internet surfed, went to church, swam, and generally hung around.  Noticeably absent was any kind of work.  Maybe next weekend.

Although we’re supposed to go kayaking and waverunning with our friends Don and Lynn on Friday, I believe.  Should be fun.  We’re going on the Hawaii cruise with them in just a couple of weeks!

And I think I’ll stop here.  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food violence news: sheep-meat smuggling!  Nothing is lower.

See you tomorrow.

Concert stage

Friday, September 16th, 2011

Here’s the stage at the concert we attended last weekend.  About which more in a few moments.  Great Art courtesy of the exclusive iPhone-cam and part of my famous Event series.

No posts yet this week.  I got busy.  As usual.  But it was a busy week.  At least a busy weekend.  Let’s see.  On Friday, we went to Stockton to see a Planetarium show at the college there.  Very small planetarium – maybe 25 seats.  Lots of yoots there.  They got extra credit for showing up.  Good, interesting show.  We had fun.  Saturday, some friends gave us tickets to the Modesto Symphony Orchestra Pops concert.  They were playing music from the 70’s.  You know, disco.  I never really expected to hear disco music played by a symphony orchestra, but there’s a first for everything.  And it was really good!  We had a great time.

The week was otherwise pretty much uneventful.  Worked, commuted, ate, and slept.  And that’s about it.  Oh, we went to a friend’s house for dinner and some fun this evening.  Five couples total.  Had a great meal and a nice time.  Tomorrow night, we go to a wedding reception for the children of some friends.  Should be nice.

LRN4 and I finished watching A New Leaf this evening.  Great movie.  Highly recommended.  Then we started with Some Like it Hot.  Another great movie.  Also highly recommended.  Great acting.

And it’s time for bed.  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this exciting yet shocking Morrowlife Employment Agency job opportunity: talking Nazi dogs!

See you on Monday.

Gallo stage

Monday, February 21st, 2011

Here’s the stage at the Gallo Center, all set up for Al Jarreau to perform.  In fact, this Great Art was taken during his show’s intermission.  Slightly fuzz Great Art courtesy of the exclusive iPhone cam and part of my brand-new-but-already-famous Event series.

Extreme short shrift.  It’s practically 10:00 already.  I’ve been answering LDS Tools emails all evening.  Getting to be a bit of a habit.  Not one I really want to foster, though.

Thursday night’s Al Jarreau concert was great!  He’s old and really hobbling around, but his voice is still great, his band was outstanding, and he was a lot of fun.  LRN4 and I were among the youngest people there, I suspect.  Sadly, the place wasn’t anywhere near full.  True shame, that.  But that just means we were part of an elite group, right?  One amusing moment – partway through the concert, Al said he had to go to the bathroom and left.  We had a brief intermission, and he came back and started back up.  I guess when you’re 70, you have that right.

The weekend was quiet.  Also rainy.  So I didn’t have get to clean filters, trim the lawn, or do pretty much anything else outside.  I spent most of Friday answering our huge backlog of LDS Tools emails – probably about a hundred.  Saturday, I made a lot of good progress on my new app.  Still have a few evenings of programming to do on that one, plus artwork.  Sunday, LRN4 and I did our income taxes.  Good news – we’re getting some money back!  Bad news – none of it is for you, Loyal Readers!

LRN4 has joined Facebook.  I finally talked her into it as a way to connect with friends who might be interested in reading her blog.  Read, Loyal Readers!

And that’s about it for tonight.  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food-related disaster: sour cream crash!

See you tomorrow.
