Pier

Here’s one of San Francisco’s lovelier docks. I wouldn’t be surprised if cruise ships stop there. Photo courtesy of Loyal Reader Number One.

Wonders of Blogger again. We were having such a nice evening (link warning: auto-playing videos with sound on both sites) I didn’t get a chance to sit down at the computer.

Not that we were all that busy. We had hoped to go out to dinner, since I was planning to leave the office no later than 3:30. Things didn’t go according to plan, though, and I ended up having a meeting that ended at 5:00 and then didn’t get home until almost 7:30. Dinner out was canceled. Fortunately, dinner in was delicious. Not that Loyal Readers Numbers One and Two got any of it. They got a last-minute invitation to a last-minute get-together at a friend’s house, so it appears they had leftover pancakes (yum!) and got out of Dodge. That left Loyal Reader Number Four, Loyal Mom, and me to enjoy the spaghetti.

Don’t worry about us, though. We’re going out to eat tonight.

Thanks for the shoutout, Anon! I was worried we wouldn’t hear from you.

Not much new today. Loyal Readers Numbers Five and Twelve came over this morning to spend the day. We don’t have much in the way of plans, other than to enjoy the day.

And now, a word from LRN12: ffcjgvjjfddddddddddddddddddddddddd dddddddddddddddddd ccccccccdx aqqqqqqqqk (editorial disclaimer: spaces added by me)

Thank you, LRN12. We appreciate your contributions. In fact, we’re having a bit of a hard time getting you to finish your contribution. Apparently, I’ve created a monster. The scary part is that she’s discovered the backspace k

Time to finish. Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on Monday.

Colonial reader

February 14th, 2008 by michael

Here’s Loyal Reader Number One and one of his brassier (copperier? bronzer?) colonial friends. Picture taken in Philadelphia just before we moved away.

Happy Valentine’s Day! We had a quiet time at home this evening – had dinner, jacuzzified, had our traditional Valentine’s cherry cheesecake, and watched Father of the Bride (the Steve Martin version). Pleasant time.

But a bad commute this morning. There were two pretty major accidents, and it took over three hours. Sigh. I’m hoping for better things tomorrow.

That’s it for today. See you tomorrow.

Rock hole

February 13th, 2008 by michael

Here’s a rock with a hole in it. Talk about your great art! I’m sure my astute Loyal Readers can identify exactly where this rock is currently located.

Average day at work. It took two hours to get there and two hours to get back. I worked like a dog – lots of things piled up during my two days off. My big project is moving forward smartly. The good thing is that it means continued employment for a few of my people. The bad thing is that it means tons of work for me, and a lot of responsibility for things I can’t control.

The Loyal Mother and Loyal Reader Number Four are out at book group this evening. Let’s hope they bring home some dessert.

I’m working on plans to change the operating systems on my two Linux boxes. Moe would get FreeNAS and Larry would get Ubuntu Server. I’m hoping Moe would speed up drastically and Larry would have much less overhead as it serves its websites. I’ll have to start slow and build up to it, but it won’t be overly hard.

Not much of interest today, huh? Oh, here’s something: I bought a copy of The 20-Minute Gardener for 25 cents at a library book sale on Saturday. Started reading it on vacation. Opinion so far: it’s worth way more than 25 cents. It tells its story in an entertaining, amusing way. My only complaint so far (I’m 62 pages into it) is that, while they start out very early with their basic principles, they’re taking their time developing them. Still, it’s fun and I’m hopeful. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

I also spent a quarter on a book on the history of the California state parks. Haven’t even cracked it open yet. That probably shouldn’t keep me from writing a review, but I’ll put it off anyway.

And that’s it for tonight. See you tomorrow.

Tokyo statues

February 12th, 2008 by michael

Here’s yet another entry in my famous statue series. I found these guys in Tokyo. Frightening, no? Special lo-qual photo taken with my original lousy digital camera.

No post on Monday. Fortunately, Anon didn’t notice. No, wait. That’s unfortunate. Where are you, Anon?

Anyway. We’re back from the funeral and family visit. It was a wonderful service that was attended by many people, including about 75 family members. Morrell was a kind man who will be sorely missed.

It was great visiting with family members we haven’t seen in a long time. My brother Loyal Reader Number Twenty-Three and all his kids were there, as was Loyal Reader Number Seventeen. And a whole lot of other people.

Things were fine at home in our absence. As expected. Our hotel room was very nice, we had some good meals, and the drives in both directions were comfortable and event-free. Oh, and it was sunny and warm the whole time.

But I’m really going to miss Uncle Morrell.

I need to get ready for my Tuesday night meeting. See you tomorrow.

Horseback rider

February 8th, 2008 by michael

Here’s Loyal Reader Number Four riding the merry-go-round in Los Gatos a couple of summers ago. Doesn’t she look like she’s having a good time?

Wonders of Blogger. I was home all day, but busy with work pretty much the whole time. Loyal Reader Number Four sometimes wonders out loud whether there’s any point at all to my staying home on my off Fridays. I think there is. I did manage to get to the Honda dealer three times, but otherwise worked.

As always, thanks to Anon for missing me.

The Honda has new gear oil in its transmission now and I’m driving it for a week or two to see if it still doesn’t want to shift into third. If not, it’s transmission rebuild time in Lardville. Let’s hope that doesn’t become necessary.

My mom got here safe and sound and pretty much on schedule late in the evening (further delaying bloggage). Well, the plane was about half an hour late, but that’s not so bad.

Anyway. She’s here and we’re having a very pleasant visit. Loyal Readers Numbers Five and Twelve came over this afternoon for another pleasant visit. We even had Loyal Reader Number Twenty-Four over for dinner, so the table was full. And the food was good. And we had a nice time together. Tomorrow, we’re off to LA.

Speaking of which, I found out yesterday that my brother Chris and his son Jack are coming too. I’m really looking forward to seeing them again.

Morrowlife Financial Juggernaut update: I’m up to 56 cents! There have even been two clicks on my exclusive ads. And they said it’s hard to make money on the Internet.

In spite of my long nap this afternoon, I’m exhausted. So I’ll see you on Monday.
