Exploded T

June 22nd, 2011 by michael

Here’s the aftermath of a tragic explosion.  I hate to see a perfectly good Model T end up that way.  Great art (slightly fuzzy or, as I like to call it, soft focus) courtesy of the exclusive iPhone-cam (forgot to take my good camera!), taken at the Henry Ford Museum, and part of my famous Machinery series.

Once again, a few days have gone by since my last post.  Let’s see what’s new.  Hmm . . . Well, it’s been quite hot.  That’s a good thing; it means the pool has been swimmable.  Very swimmable.  Dare I say eminently swimmable?  Yes, I dare.  Eminently swimmable.

So we’ve been swimming.  At least I have.  LRN4 has jacuzzified a bit, but it’s still not quite warm enough for her.  It’s been as high as 87 or so in there, which is really comfortable.  I’ve been in every day since Sunday.  Ahh!  This is the life.

But not tonight.  Need to post on my blog instead.  Also go to bed at a reasonable hour.

Speaking of which, I got up at 2:45 on Monday morning to go see our boy scouts off to camp.  I brought some donuts and juice, which were apparently well received.  At least there were no more donuts when I left.  I took a bit of Sunny D home with me, though.

Made up for the early Monday morning by sleeping in a bit on Tuesday.  I had a dental appointment in the morning, so I worked from home for the day.  Slept W-A-Y in until 6:45.

Had one cavity, which was filled on the spot.  So I’m good for another six months.  There was a new dentist – I guess my old one has moved on.  The new guy’s named Larry and I like him.  Next appointment: December 22.  That ought to work just about perfectly, as it’s my last work day before the Christmas holiday.  I can work that one from home too!

We’ve started looking at vacation homes in Las Vegas.  We think we might like to end up there after I retire, and now seems like a great time to buy, assuming we can afford it.  We’re looking at fairly small condos, with the idea that it would be our home base when we’re not somewhere else.  Which is what home bases are for, presumably.  Anyway, LRN4 might go out there and have a look in a couple of weeks.  We’re starting to get pretty serious.

One potential problem: if we buy a vacation condo, I might not be able to comfortably afford a Model T.  So here’s a special Morrowlife poll:

Which should I buy: a condo in Las Vegas or a Model T?

Vote early and vote often!  Operators are standing by.

That’s about it for today.  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food violence news (and possible Morrowlife employment agency job opportunity): beef jerky bandit!

See you tomorrow.

Yosemite valley

June 15th, 2011 by michael

Here’s some mountains in Yosemite.  Great Art taken from the Yosemite valley and part of my famous Vacation series.

Not a lot to write tonight.  I went to a friend’s house this evening to participate in a quick Scouting Board of Review for a couple of young men.  Excellent young men, I might add.  My friend John was earning his third Eagle palm, a mere six days before his eighteenth birthday.  What a great young man he is.

Anyway.  Very hot day today.  It was much cooler out in the South Bay, of course, but still quite warm.  The air conditioning broke yesterday afternoon and then again today.  Today’s failure was accompanied by a burned belt, which made our steaming hot offices smell like burnt rubber.  I invited everybody to go home and work from there if they wanted, and I took my own advice.  Went home an hour early and worked on the train and then at home.

Had a nice weekend.  It was an off Friday, and we spent it getting all our weekend’s work done so we could relax a bit on Saturday.  I also found some time Friday to get into the pool, which was at about 78 degrees.  That’s swimmable, but barely, as far as I’m concerned.  I turned the pool heat on and kind of swam from one outlet to another.  The sun was out and very warm, and it turned out to be very comfortable in the water, after a brief getting-used-to-it period.  Wanted to get in again this evening, but I didn’t get home until after the sun had gone down and I didn’t have the heart to get into the 81-degree water.  Jacuzzified instead and enjoyed it.

Nothing else for tonight.  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this exciting Morrowlife Employment Agency job opportunity: monkeys in pirate suits!

See you tomorrow.

Carder

June 9th, 2011 by michael

Here’s a really cool Early American machine we saw at Greenfield Village – a wool carder.  I had no idea these things even existed.  It doesn’t look like something I’d like to get my arm stuck in.  Part of both my famous Machinery and Vacation series.

Extreme short shrift.  It’s really late and I should have been in bed about 45 minutes ago.  But I can find a couple minutes to blog.

Especially since I haven’t written at all this week yet.  Fortunately, not much news again this week.  LRN4 was set apart as Relief Society president on Sunday and she’s been pretty busy since then.  I’m still running at my normal speed.

Did I mention the blower on the spa broke again?  This time, the motor is dead – one of its brushes ground itself all the way down, and it didn’t look very easy to replace it.  So I decided to just buy another motor.  Good old Amazon had one available for about $230.  They also had the entire blower unit available for $212.  So I bought the whole thing.  It got here today and I suspect it’ll be installed by tomorrow.

Lots of other things to do this weekend.  Nothing really big, fortunately.  I need to wash all three cars, trim the lawn, fix the power button on the vacuum, do a bit of cleaning in the garage, straighten up my office at home, prepare my lesson for Sunday, and watch a whole bunch of technical videos I’ve discovered in the past week.  Seems like a pretty relaxing weekend, actually, especially since tomorrow is my off Friday.

Nothing else for tonight, so I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this exciting food honor news:  meat hall of fame!

See you tomorrow.

Bugatti 57

June 2nd, 2011 by michael

Here’s the last thing some poor slob would have seen before being squished by a rich guy in a Bugatti.  A Bugatti Type 57.  An extremely rare Bugatti Type 57.  Great Art taken at Greenfield Village and part of my famous Machinery series.  No poor slobs were harmed in the making of this Great Art.

Greetings from Detroit!  I haven’t posted since we got here, and LRN4 and I are technically sitting the airport waiting area, ready to leave, but we’re still in Detroit!

Had a great time.  We saw my mother, father, brother, two sisters, two brothers-in-law, four nieces, two nephews-in-law, and two great-nieces.  We stayed at my sister’s house for three nights, my mother’s and other sister’s house for three nights, and my dad’s house for one night.  We visited the Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, and the Detroit Zoo.  We ate WAY too much, took a bit of Great Art, and chatted a whole bunch.  We didn’t work.  The flights here (we changed planes in Phoenix) were right on time and comfortable, and we have high hopes for the flights back (Phoenix plane-change again).  We believe the house didn’t burn down or get carried away by thieves, since I was able to connect to my server there.

So it was pretty much the perfect vacation.  On the only negative side, it was FREEZING cold and rainy for the first few days, and then BURNING hot and humid for the next couple of days.  Yesterday and today, however, were pretty much perfect – sunny and temperatures in the high 70’s and low 80’s, and fairly dry.

We had pretty much everybody in the family at LRN8’s house on Memorial Day.  Lots of fun.  We didn’t do much besides eat and talk, but that was enough.

— Later —

Just got home.  The trip was smooth, the ride was comfortable, the parking people arrived promptly and charged the right amount, the car was in perfect condition, and the house was unmolested.  Perfect.  It’s nice to be back.  I’ve decided to take another vacation day tomorrow – that’s how nice it is to be back.

Nothing much else to report, so I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this shocking food violence news: McNugget road rage!

See you tomorrow.

Indian Joe

May 25th, 2011 by michael

Here’s the Indian Joe Trail at the Sunol Regional Wilderness park.  It wasn’t all that grassy.  Or smooth.  Or level.  But it was all pretty.  Part of my famous Hiking series.

Hasn’t been as long as usual since I last wrote! I’m turning over a new leaf! Maybe!

Very busy day today, followed by a very busy evening. I had to get everything at work in ship-shape shape for my vacation. Now I have to get everything at home in ship-shape shape too. Must pack, get another movie on my iPad (Johnny English, a very funny movie starring Rowan Atkinson, who, when he’s good, is very, very good), get the LDS Tools test team working at top speed and efficiency, and maybe do some other things that I can’t remember right now. But I have them written down! In Toodledo!

Which is turning out to be a to-do list program that I think I like. I finally found one!  Highly recommended, even though it’ll cost you a couple bucks.  Worth it.

Otherwise, nothing going on.  Talked with LRN3 a couple of times during the last few days.  He’s doing pretty well and things are looking up for LRN15 and him.  Hi, there, Loyal Readers!

Time to get ready to go to the Water Winter Wonderland!  I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with this exciting Morrowlife employment agency job opportunity: time-traveling chimps!

See you tomorrow.
