The Loyal Pet returns

Friday, November 10th, 2006

Here’s a fairly recent picture of the Loyal Pet. Isn’t she cute? Not quite as cute as Loyal Reader Number Twelve, of course. For a while there, I thought we’d be seeing this picture on milk cartons. The terrible story can now be told.

With the family away for a couple of weeks, the LP has to stay home alone for a lot of hours every day. Loyal Reader Number Four and I had decided it would be nicer to let her stay in the backyard than to keep her in her kennel for such a long time. I did several trial runs during the weekend and she was fine back there. She was also fine on Monday, so everything seemed to be good. Well, I got home on Tuesday night and she wasn’t there and there was a suspicious hole under the fence next to the house. Oh, no. I wandered around the neighborhood. No LP. Called the pound. Ditto. I went to bed.

Wednesday dawned and no LP. Depression. Sadly, I went to work and asked LRN4 to inform the boys she was gone. She did. Sadness reigned. I got home on Wednesday evening hoping to see her on the porch. Nope. Went inside the house and checked the backyard just to be sure, and there she was! She had dug her way back under the fence and appeared no worse for the wear. I have no idea where she spent the night, but she’s back!

Guess where she stayed Thursday and today. Hint: not in the backyard.

Happy Veterans’ Day! I worked. The morning traffic was extremely light, which was very nice. It was about normal in the evening, though, which is strange. Where did all those cars come from if they didn’t drive to work this morning? The mystery may never be answered.

The other excitement in the last few days is that our web hosting service went down and stayed down. It was dead all day Wednesday and Thursday and finally came back up today. Vizaweb still hasn’t explained what happened. At this point, though, I don’t care anymore. Since Vizaweb registered my URL in their own name, I went ahead and bought a couple of new ones and am working on rehosting my websites. This is the first one to make the jump – the new name for the Morrowlife blog is www.morrowlife.net. Which actually makes more sense. It’s been a lot of work to get it set up and I’m only about halfway there, but it’s more like fun than work anyway.

Otherwise things have been pretty quiet. I’m sitting around the loft watching a few recorded shows, blogging, and configuring computers. Joy.

However, I’ve been watching TV more than blogging and it’s late now, so I’ll quit. I’ll get the HRVA figured out over the weekend. In the meantime, the old URLs still work. See you on Monday.

The Morrowlife blog has a new home!

And it matches the actual blog name now. Easier to type. Easier to remember. I like it better. If you’re reading this, you found it.

Sorry for the Morrowlife blog having disappeared the last few days – my service provider had server trouble. I’ve remedied the unacceptable downtime by moving the blog to a new name and a new server – Larry – conveniently located under my desk. Although I’m thinking of switching it to Moe, the ancient Linux box in the game room, and reserving Larry for internal testing. Decisions, decisions.

At any rate, I’ll make an actual post later today. Cheers.

Here’s another picture of Loyal Reader Number Twelve, this time with Loyal Reader Number Six, who hasn’t been pictured here very often. Looks like she’s keeping an eye on him. No problem, though – he’s got a pretty good hold on her.

It’s late and it was a long, tough day, so I’m not going to write anything tonight. In lieu of something to read, here’s something to watch:

See you tomorrow.

Loyal Reader Number Twelve Arrives

Monday, November 6th, 2006

Was there any question in any Loyal Reader’s mind what today’s photo would be? Welcome to Loyal Reader Number Twelve! She was born on Sunday morning, November 5, at about 7:30. Isn’t she cute? Congratulations to Loyal Readers Numbers Five and Six. I can hardly wait to see them in a couple of weeks.

So it was an exciting weekend. Although it was kind of quiet for me, as I was home alone with the Loyal Pet. She did her best to keep it exciting by pooping on the carpet. Otherwise, I did a little work on things around here, did a little reading and movie watching, worked on Linux configuration issues, jacuzzified once, went grocery shopping, attended a very nice baptism, and taught a bunch of nine-year-olds in Primary. Otherwise, nothing much going on.

I stayed up too late last night and let myself sleep in a little this morning. It didn’t help the commute any, as there were a couple of accidents along the way. Still, I got there by the time I needed to be there. I’m planning to get up a little earlier than usual tomorrow to split the difference. Need to get to bed shortly.

Had lunch at a nice little sushi restaurant near the office today. They had a lunch special that included a few pieces of California roll, some tempura, and some teriyaki. I ate at a sidewalk table – the weather was perfect – and enjoyed the meal and the break. Had an average drive home at the end of the day, although I spent most of it pleasantly on the phone with my brother Chris (alas, not a Loyal Reader but a Good Person nonetheless). Made a delicious TV dinner when I got home and I’ve been enjoying the Family Home Evening watching old Mythbusters episodes with the Loyal Pet. Good times.

Well, Mia Fever has such a grip on me that I have nothing else to write about today. Check the HRVA for a new poll. Oh, and take the poll! See you tomorrow.

Loyal pet

Here’s Loyal Reader Number Four with our loyal pet. The photo was taken a few years back when I was away on a launch campaign. The LP had just gotten her summer haircut and the family needed to show it to me. Very nice.

Wow! I haven’t posted since Tuesday. It’s been one of those weeks. Stayed late at work every night, had a church meeting on Wednesday after I got home, etc. Fortunately, my Loyal Readers haven’t exactly been clamoring for more of my famous Marginal Content.

Well, Loyal Readers One, Two, and Four have gone and done it. They’ve left for Sugarloaf for Loyal Reader Number Twelve’s much-anticipated arrival. They took off at about 8:00 this morning and will be gone for two weeks. Two whole weeks! What will I do? How will I survive? What will I eat?

Well, I’ll be fine. And Loyal Reader Number Five needs them much more than I do. Besides, I still have my loyal dog. Maybe I can train her to bring me things. But probably not. Maybe I can train her to eat without dumping her food all over the carpet. Probably not.

– Later –

Watched a few video podcasts netcasts tonight, ate some taquitos and eggs, and talked with LRN4 and LRN5 (briefly) on the phone. The trip seems to have gone well – it took about 7 hours, which is what Mapquest predicted. So there’s something for you.

Enough for tonight. See you on Monday.
