Blue lagoon

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Here’s a pretty little bit of water up at Clark’s Fork. That water is nothing if not blue. Taken during our August 2008 trip. Part of my famous Camping series.

Sunny, rainy day. Sometimes both at the same time. More rain coming through Friday. The weekend looks pretty clear, which is nice for a change.

Nothing much to report. I called Loyal Reader Number Four on the Ooma during the lunch hour. It worked great. I need to do a little stress testing soon – want to see how the calls go when I’m downloading something big, copying lots of files across the network, and watching TV on the ‘net. May have to set a fixed IP address on the Ooma and do a little Quality of Service shaping to keep data flowing. Another fun toy to work on!

Otherwise, it’s pretty quiet. LRN4 has been looking for just the right formal dress for our upcoming cruise. I have a modest suggestion.

Let’s check in with the food violence world: It’s getting dangerous out there. Remember: when frozen meat is outlawed, only outlaws will have frozen meat. On the other hand, some people are actually doing something about it. Of course, you can go too far.

See you tomorrow.

Another waterfall

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Here are (much earlier versions of) Loyal Readers Numbers One and Two headed down towards the Pennsylvania Waterfall prominently featured in last Friday’s post. I have another sneaking suspicion I’ve used this photo before too. Nobody can prove it, though. Part of my famous Camping series.

No post yesterday. I was sick. Came home early, arriving at about 12:30, and went to bed immediately. While I did get up a couple of times, I’m estimating I got about 18 hours of sleep. And I’m sleepy again already.

Thanks to good old Anon for noticing my absence. I can always count on Anon.

Rainy day today – big time. We’re supposed to have pretty steady rain for at least the next five days. I’m predicting the famous California drought will be over before March is out. Of course, that won’t stop our Masters in Government from imposing draconian restrictions, will it?

Large puddles abound outside the train windows, and the little creek we go by while we’re in one of our picturesque little valleys is absolutely raging. And very muddy.

Family members are starting to gear up for the Wedding of the Century in Las Vegas mid-month. So far, Loyal Readers Numbers Three, Four, Five, Six, Twelve, Fifteen, and I are planning to go, and Loyal Reader Number One has formed an exploratory committee. I’m really looking forward to seeing everybody. Loyal Reader Number Two is pretty sad to be missing everybody.

I haven’t seen much going on in the toilet world since our last update. Maybe I should have milked a few days’ posts out of that. In related news, though, the sewerage hippos are causing quite a stink.

Non-meeting Tuesday tonight. I should probably be making some Girls Camp calls, but I’m otherwise uncommitted. Maybe I should spend some of the time ordering that remote control I want. Also the extra phone charger.

Later – Ooma got here today! I set it up, and it actually works! Really well! I need to get an Ethernet splitter (if there is such a thing – if not, I need to make one and possibly sell them so others won’t have to suffer like me) and an expanded switch for the closet so I can set it up where I want it, but it’s currently set up by LRN4’s computer and working perfectly. We’ve ordered our phone number switched over to it, after which we’ll turn off Verizon for good. Should take about another month. In the meantime, the Ooma box is hooked up to an auxiliary phone, so we don’t have to give the temporary number out. But I’ll be happy to give it to my Loyal Readers if anybody wants to try it out. Email me!

Nothing else going on. See you tomorrow.

Pennsylvania waterfall

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Here’s a very young Loyal Reader Number One hanging out by a waterfall somewhere in Pennsylvania. Part of my famous Camping series.

I have a sneaking suspicion I’ve used that photo before. If any Loyal Readers care to find it, you’ll be fully rewarded by seeing your name on the actual Internet.

Went out to dinner with Loyal Reader Number Four this evening. Loyal Reader Number Two’s at the temple, so the mice are playing. We went to the Greek hamburger joint in town and had a pastrami cheeseburger. Saw our cruise partner Connie there. The burgers and fries were delicious. And huge. We’re both el stuffo.

Lots going on in the toilet community today. For one thing, they’re getting expensive. For another, they’re getting disgusting. And finally, the rest of the world is jealous of us! That’s what makes America great – our toilet paper technology is the envy of the world.

LRN4 and I are watching an old episode of Remington Steele. It was a cute show and still holds up pretty well, the 70’s haircuts and clothes notwithstanding. It’s on Hulu – check it out.

Drove the Miata to work today. The traffic was mediocre, but it was nice to drive the sports car. Hadn’t been inside it for a few weeks. I’m thinking of taking Loyal Reader Number Two over to the church parking lot tomorrow for a little manual transmission driving practice. Wish both him and the car luck.

Back to the show. Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on Monday.

East coast camping

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Here’s Loyal Reader Number Four walking down the road in an east coast campground. The camping was certainly green and beautiful there. And wet. Part of my famous Camping series.

I have a serious problem with the Morrowlife blog. It’s taking way too much of my precious home time. That’s one of the main reasons why I bought the data plan for my phone – the hope is to get it done and posted during the evening commute every day, leaving me free to eat, do high council work, watch computer-based TV shows, and even possibly visit with my family. And maybe get to bed on time once in a while.

There is one small problem, though: the phone’s battery life stinks. Every night on the way home from work since I turned on the data plan, the phone has died from lack of chargage. I’m thinking of getting another charger I can keep at work. That would fix me up.

Or maybe it’s just that I’ve been playing with the web/texting/email too much during the day. Still, the battery ought to last WAY longer than that. Sigh.

Anyway. Not much else going on so far today. That’s about to turn around, though. My non-Loyal-Reader brother-in-law Ken is in town and is stopping by for dinner and (hopefully) an evening of chatting. He’s going home tomorrow, apparently, which is a good thing because my non-Loyal-Reader sister-in-law Melanie (AKA his wife) had surgery today to replace the elbow joint she broke a couple of days ago. She might like him to lend a hand for a few days.

Or maybe not. Friends of Ken will know that of which I speak.

But we’re looking forward to his visit this evening.

Loyal Reader Number Four and I selected our cruise side trips last night. We’re going ATVing at one place, visiting a glacier and salmon hatchery at another, doing something fascinating that I can’t remember right now but am tremendously excited about at another, and visiting the world-famous Bouchart Gardens in Vancouver. Should be a real fun trip.

I’m excited to be spending several days at sea on this cruise – we were ashore every day on the Disney cruise a few years back, which was our only other similar experience. I didn’t feel I had enough time to just explore the ship and relax. This time, we’re only off the ship for four of the ten days, one of which will only last something like six hours. So we’ll have plenty of ship time.

I want to play shuffleboard. Also recline on a deck chair, read a book, and watch the world go by.

Oh, I just remembered what the other excursion is. We’re getting on a little boat in the harbor and going to see an eagle preserve of some kind, a bunch of authentic totem poles, and a bunch of other stuff. I believe there’s also a bunch of authentic Alaskan food. Whale blubber and that sort of thing. Yum.

That’s about it for now. Work Friday tomorrow. See you then.

Road walkers

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Here are Loyal Readers Numbers Two and Four walking down the road at Anthony Chabot Regional Park. Photo courtesy of the famous Treo-cam. Part of my famous Camping series.

Short Shrift. It’s not Massive Meeting Tuesday, but I do have an interview. So I’m out of the house for much of the evening.

Good day today. It was our last sunny, warm day for a little while, and it was truly beautiful. Rain and temperatures only in the upper 50s for the rest of the week. Including Off Friday. Too bad. We need the moisture, though.

Speaking of which, a friend – I can’t remember who – said we’ve had no snow in the mountains this winter. It’s absolutely dry up there, he or she said. That may be true, but I remember news reports from December that said the extremely heavy snows had reached all the way down to almost the thousand foot level. What happened to all that snow?

Anyway. Loyal Reader Number Two took the final for his Biology class today. He reports that it appears to have gone very well. Good work, LRN2!

Quick Juggernaut update: $11.72. I’ve made 52 cents this month alone, so far! Riches are just around the corner.

Loyal Reader Number One has been updating his blog pretty frequently. He made a very cool trip to a mine this past weekend and has posted the pictures. Highly recommended reading/viewing. If you’re not on the photo album invitation list, comment on his blog and request an invite.

Nothing else new today. See you tomorrow.
