Seals

October 12th, 2009 by michael

Here’s a rock full of seals in Ketchikan harbor. Kind of sloppy looking, if you ask me.

The Loyal Readers are nearly in full revolt over the alarming quantity of cruise-related Great Art lately. Fear not, Loyal Readers. I’m almost out. Then it’ll be back to the Same Old Thing. Maybe we’ll go on another cruise sometime, though.

The weekend was fine. Didn’t accomplish much of anything, except to unclog the holes on the pond’s pump, resulting in an amazing quantity of water flow and a striking increase in the clarity of said water. It was a Real Good Thing.

Otherwise, relaxed, went to meetings, visited the library, and . . . umm . . . relaxed. Also signed time cards.

I’ll leave my Loyal Readers with some very rare Wedding Violence news: Preachers, keep those chapel doors locked.

See you tomorrow.

On the dock

Here’s LRN4 on the dock in . . . umm . . . Ketchikan, I think. Probably. My Loyal Readers may well be delighted to learn that I’m just about out of Alaskan Great Art. It’s been a good long run, though. Then we’ll be back to campouts and such things. Or our next cruise. Who knows?

Fine day. We had a picnic luncheon for one of my recently-retired coworkers. Sunnyvale was cloudy and a little too cool right up until the very moment we started eating. The clouds suddenly evaporated and it got sunny and warm essentially immediately. It was great! As LRN1 mentioned via text message earlier today, perfect timing.

Otherwise normal. We were all home this evening, which was nice. Had a pleasant pizza dinner and did a little reading. Also double-checked time cards and performance self-appraisals. I had a few of the former to approve, which I did with minor changes. Lots of performance-appraisal-related work the next few weeks.

The weekend is refreshingly uncluttered. I should probably clean the pool filters and wash a car tomorrow, but that’s about all that’s on the plate. I’m sure something else will come up, though. Sunday’s looking to be pretty standard too, with the exception of a leadership meeting in the evening. No complaints, though.

We’re looking at a bunch of rain the first half of next week. Apparently, some Pacific typhoon is blowing through. We’re looking forward to it. But only for a couple of days, of course. No need to go overboard.

I’m going to go way outside my normal Blog Comfort Zone here and end with some previously unheard-of music violence: keep your harmonica to yourself.

See you on Monday.

Flimsy dock

Here’s our ship at the Haines dock. Looks a little rickety from this angle, doesn’t it?

Extreme Short Shrift. LRN4 went out to dinner with a few friends this evening, so I was busy with LRN12 until just a few moments ago, which coincided (oddly) with LRN4’s return. It’s late and I’m sleepy, so this won’t take long.

I’m excited to report, though, that Apple appears to have finally gotten their act together and addressed the very serious issues caused by the iPhone OS 3.1 update several weeks ago. My phone has been behaving terribly, with very frequent freezes (coma mode, they’re calling it) and network shutdowns. I’ve been very disappointed with it, and it was made worse by Apple’s stonewalling and refusing to acknowledge the mess they’ve made of so many people’s phones. Not good for customer relations, Apple. The update is installing as I write this. Hopes are running high.

I’ll leave you with today’s food violence news: Just take the fries.

See you tomorrow.

Stateroom

October 7th, 2009 by michael

Here’s LRN4 in our spacious, luxurious stateroom on the cruise ship. Very comfortable. Also roomy. And did I mention luxurious?

Normal day. Got up early, commuted, worked, commuted, ate dinner, and blogged. LRN12 and I are watching The Aristocats while I type. Great movie. Highly recommended. LRN4 is out at a church meeting until fairly late, so I’m on LRN12 bedtime duty tonight. Gulp.

We got some good news at work this week – it looks like they’re planning to extend our program after all. I’m hoping they make it official before all my best people defect. It’s a great time to not be looking for a job, isn’t it?

No other news. Other than today’s toilet news, that is: go before you go.

See you tomorrow.

Deck view

October 6th, 2009 by michael

Here’s the view from the promenade deck of . . . someplace. I have no idea. But it was nice, I’m sure. We enjoyed walking around the ship on the promenade deck, when it was warm enough. Which was pretty much only when we were in port.

Strange day. I had a dentist appointment at 8:00 this morning for a six-month cleaning. The dentist (a new one for me, but I like him – my old one left to pursue a new specialty – guess I scared her off) checked my teeth and offered to give me eight fillings to help eliminate my extreme sensitivity to hot and cold food. I jumped at the chance. Also paid a bunch of money. Anyway, by the time we were done with eight fillings and my cleaning, it was after 1:00. Next, I went to the doctor’s office to get some blood drawn for my soon-to-be-scheduled physical. By the time I got home, it was way too late to get to work, so I worked a couple of hours from home and called it a day. I was pretty sore, jaw-wise, but I’m fine now. Also plenty sleepy, so this will be a relatively short post.

Spent a little time in the jacuzzi this afternoon. All the resident Loyal Readers were at piano/organ lessons, so I heated the thing up, paused Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and got in. They got home, after which LRN12 wanted to join me, which she did. We had a nice time jacuzzifying.

Swimming is over for us for the season. The pool water is in the 70’s and way too cold to swim in. Maybe LRN2 could handle it at this point, but not me. He’s a cold water fan, apparently.

LRN24 dropped by for dinner and a bit of hanging out with LRN12 this evening. It was nice to see her, as always. Thanks for coming over, LRN24!

And that’s about it for tonight. We have more chilling toilet news: you’re on your own.

See you tomorrow.
