Here’s another one of those train engines at Baikonur. Nice whitewalls. Well, yellowwalls, anyway.

Greetings from the train. There’s big trouble here tonight. Apparently, the train ahead of us hit someone or something on the tracks – they’ve been quite vague about exactly what happened. We’re probably at least an hour behind schedule, and we’re probably about halfway there. Sigh. Well, at least I can console myself with the knowledge that the earlier train is fully an hour later than us, since we just attached ourselves to it. Double sigh.

No post on Friday. I went to Loyal Reader Number Two’s organ concert that evening and I just never got around to posting. Sorry about that, Anon. I’ll try to get a good five posts in this week. Well, maybe not good posts, but five posts anyway.

Went to the doctor’s office Friday afternoon. He said my blood pressure is better than I thought it was and suggested I take an antihistamine for my excessive allergy problems. I’ve been taking them for four days now and seem somewhat improved. Hope reigns.

It was General Conference weekend, so very little else happened around our house. We managed to wash a couple of cars between sessions on Saturday and, umm, that’s about it. I discovered on Sunday that the pond filter really needs to be cleaned – the spring algae bloom is going great guns and maybe I can ease it off a little with a clean filter. Hope to get to it before the weekend, but I have no idea when.

Speaking of no time, I’ve committed to being at work by 7:00 every morning for the rest of the week. One of my colleagues and I need to get some testing done, and that’s the only time the lab is available. So I’ll be pretty much going home, eating dinner, and going to bed tonight. And then tomorrow is Tuesday-go-to-meeting night. And Thursday is High Priest leadership meeting. And then we’re back to the weekend. So maybe the pond filter won’t get cleaned until Saturday after all.

On the other hand, I’m feeling better!

That’s about it for today. See you tomorrow.

French alley

Here’s a pretty little street in Cannes. Not very good for driving, though.

No time to blog tonight. I’m heading for my new Thursday evening leadership meeting. I need to stop doing my old calling now that I’m busy doing my new one. Hopefully, my leaders will take care of that little detail Real Soon Now.

The sinus pain isn’t going away. I think it’s related to allergies, which have been quite bad for a lot of people this year. I didn’t sleep much at all last night because of the pain. Pity me. I’m going to see the doctor tomorrow afternoon.

Gotta go already. See you tomorrow.

Cannes sunset

Here’s the sun going down in Cannes. Taken from my hotel room balcony during one of my many trips there.

No post yesterday. I got home from my Tuesday evening meeting too late and wanted to get to bed. Sorry about that, Loyal Readers. Nice to hear from Anon, though.

Got up with pretty nasty sinus pain this morning, and it hasn’t gotten much better during the day. Pity me.

Otherwise normal day. I rode the train again (keeping my personal Mon-Wed-Fri commitment for once) (or twice this week, actually). It was supposed to rain. It’s been cloudy all day and I felt a tiny drop or two while I was at the train station for the afternoon ride, but that’s it so far. Sunny and 74 degrees predicted tomorrow. Spring is pretty pleasant around here.

The hills are still mostly green. The rich, velvety appearance is gone, but they’re still not bad. It’s nice to sit and look out the train window. Although I’ve been much too busy mucking about with closing emails (I’m down to just a hair over 100 unread ones – down from over 700 when I got back from vacation a week and a half ago!), writing my blog post, and watching/listening to the iPod to spend much time observing.

No new podcasts on the iPod right now. I’ve downloaded numerous audio books from Librivox, but I’ll talk about them as I listen to them. Even though I go through four to five hours of content every day, there still seems to be no shortage. Which is a good thing. The big problem is deciding what to leave out.

Time to do other things. See you tomorrow.

Dark campsite

March 31st, 2008 by michael

Per popular request (well, at least a request from Loyal Reader Number Four), here’s our campsite at this month’s Big Sur campout. Quite a bit darker and more foresty than Friday’s picture, no?

Greetings from the train! And the wifi is working! Granted, it’s not fast, but it’s there. Which is a huge improvement, after only about a year and a half. It’s working on only one train so far, and I’m hoping they’ll get going and get it installed on all of them.

Okay weekend. As Loyal Reader Number One mentioned in his comment on Friday’s post, he and Loyal Reader Number Two had a pleasant time at the snow campout. They stayed warm and comfortable, as opposed to the condition of some of their companions. Good going, Loyal Readers!

LRN4 and I stayed home and hosted our young friend Matt, as previously described. He had a fun time, which was good, as LRN4 and I were a little worried he might be bored with just us old folks.

As planned, I got weed killer sprayed on the lawn. Also helped LRN4 get some lattice boards up for climbing plants in the garden. And that’s it, also as planned.

I got a new responsibility at church yesterday – I’m now the first assistant in the High Priests group. Should be an enjoyable job.

Average day at work. I was sad to see my friend Russ retire today, but happy for him. He’ll be greatly missed on the program and by his friends.

It was a good idea to ride the train today. The traffic report I saw before leaving the house said there was an accident involving a semi at one place and one involving an overturned SUV at another. While I’ll never know how bad it would have been, I think I can be pretty sure it wouldn’t have been pretty. Might ride the train again tomorrow. Maybe not, though.

It’s a beautiful sunny afternoon. The day didn’t start out too well, though. It was in the mid-30s when I left the house, and the walk from the on-campus bus stop to my building was uncomfortably cold. Pity me, Loyal Readers.

Possibly some presidential commentary tomorrow. See you then.

Mountain

Here’s the view from across the street from our campsite last week. Very pretty view.

Took the train today, which turned out to be a good idea. It was just starting to rain as I got aboard. I can’t prove it, of course, but I’m guessing the traffic was pretty bad. At any rate, the ride was comfortable and the Friday ridership was light, as always.

Loyal Readers Numbers One and Two are camping in the snow tonight. Lots of camping going on. We’ll see them some time tomorrow. Our young Friend Matt is over for the night. He’s getting used to being away from home in preparation for an upcoming trip to band camp or something. We hope all goes well for him tonight.

Otherwise, situation normal. See you on Monday.
