Here’s the remains of a military barracks building at Fort Seward in Haines, Alaska. I wish I could report this as the outcome of some great military battle. But as I recall, their refrigerator or water heater or something caught on fire and burned the place to the ground, long after the military had abandoned the post. Well, we can always dream.
Made the decision to take the whole week of next week, so tomorrow’s my last work day of the year! Woo hoo! Not that I’m anxious to have 16 days off, of course.
Otherwise pretty normal day. The train was an hour late arriving in Lardville this morning. Apparently, they were passing by a freight train just after they left the station in Stockton when some freight fell off the freight train and landed on our train. They had to stop and sit around and argue about it for a while. Also take pictures. I think there might be an insurance claim against the Union Pacific railroad in the near future. I wonder how much a new locomotive costs.
I have yet another exciting job opportunity for my Loyal Readers: Kung Fu Monkey. I think we can all agree that’s pretty much a dream job.
And we’ll end with some toilet news today: pigs get in the act too. Remind me to stay away from those “special toilets.”
See you tomorrow.

Here’s a boat in Alaska. Apparently, the owner is hoping for a very high tide. Part of my famous Machinery series.
No post yesterday – got too busy and went to bed fairly early. Sorry about that, Loyal Readers. Fortunately, Anon hasn’t been here lately.
Went to the program’s Christmas luncheon for managers this afternoon. They didn’t plan until a bit too late, so our meal was supposed to go from 3:00 to 4:30. I had to leave at 4:45 to catch my train, and they had just barely served the entree. The food was fine and I enjoyed the company. Didn’t get much done today, though.
I’m thinking of taking a couple more days of vacation next week, giving me the entire week off, resulting in a two-week holiday. I don’t really have anything I need or want to do, but the office is going to be totally dead those days and the more time off the merrier, generally. I plan to decide for sure tomorrow.
LRN1’s been taking his finals this week and he reports that he’s done fairly well. I’m looking forward to having him home again this weekend. Also to having my truck home.
That’s about it for today. Today’s shocking food violence is even more shocking than usual, in that the violence was done to the actual food. Oh, the humanity. Or rather, the foodosity. Or something like that.
See you tomorrow.

Here’s a . . . umm . . . contraption. Found it in an empty lot in Haines, Alaska. Our ship is in the background there.

Here’s yet another totem picture. Taken at the usual place during the usual vacation. I liked the lighting in the Totem room. Made ’em look kind of sinister. Part of my famous Statue series.
Busy day, with seemingly few accomplishments. LRN4 and I spent most of it shopping for Christmas presents. Spent a lot of money and finished the shopping. Woo hoo! I still might want to find one or two more little things for her.
Otherwise, activities were limited. It was cold and rainy today – although warmer than the last couple of days. We’re expecting worse weather on Saturday and maybe Sunday. It’s nice to have a bit of variety, though.
The branch Christmas dinner was nice, as expected. The food was great! We had to leave a bit early to go work on the day’s last Christmas present, which I think a couple of Loyal Readers are going to love. Hope so, anyway.
I have yet more shocking food violence news, and this one is such a waste: steak assault. Couldn’t she use a hot dog or a piece of salmon or something a little more expendable?
See you Monday.

Here’s LRN12’s Christmas present. She likes dolls, so I see no reason why she wouldn’t adore this one. Looks like Snow White to me. Great Eskimo Art taken in that wonderful museum in Canada. Part of my famous Statue series.
The weekend is once again here! After having late meetings the last couple of nights that prohibited me from even going home between work and church meetings, it’s been a wonderfully relaxing evening at home. Had a leisurely and delicious dinner of enchiladas, did a couple of dishes, and then stood by the nice warm fireplace and read some tech websites. Blogging now, and then I think I’ll read some more and turn in fairly early. My idea of a nice night.
Work’s still busy, but things are getting done. I still have about eight performance appraisals to give on Monday, but I think that can be accomplished. Let’s hope so, anyway. If I’m late . . . umm . . . nothing will happen to me. But I hope to be on time anyway.
We have some shocking food violence news tonight, of which there certainly seems to have been a lot lately: donut assault on a police officer. We need strict federal donut regulation, and we need it now. How did the guy think he would get away with it?
See you tomorrow.
